Have you ever felt conflicted about your enjoyment for porn and how it might also contribute to the oppression of performers? The prominent messaging we hear and see are about sex workers being addicts, having low-self esteem, traumatic histories, and resorting to sexwork as means of survival.
Stigma surrounding sexwork is multi-layered. It dictates how people are able to engage in the industry and personal lives in healthy or damaging ways.
How do we understand the difference between sex work as a profession and sex trafficking?
Many academics and activists speak about the destructiveness of sex work and porn without hearing from and valuing the experiences of the workers.
This panel will explore and unpack the myths and assumptions about sex work. Hear diverse stories from folks in the industry and learn what draws them to the profession, what keeps them, and how you can be an ally.
